About us

Creator, Andrea says,

I began my journey in skincare back in the 1980's as an advanced beauty therapist studying cosmetic science. Back then the beauty industry was going through a huge cultural transition from basic skincare, the era of cold creams and clay masks, to something demanding investment in scientific lotions, treatments and anti-aging innovations.

It became the decade of cosmetic science, introducing potent, high-tech scientific formulas. In 1982, Estée Lauder launched their Night Repair Complex, fundamentally changing the anti-aging serum market. This era saw the introduction of revolutionary ingredients like Retinol and Vitamin C. It was also during this decade that tretinoin (prescription-strength retinoids) gained medical recognition for its anti-aging capabilities.

The most popular everyday routine was brutally simple: wash, scrub, and tone.

Thick, heavy cleansers for melting away the era's heavy makeup. For acne-prone skin, deep-cleaning creams like Noxzema were used for their classic tingle. Following this harsh cleanse, alcohol-heavy toners were aggressively rubbed all over the face to "dry out" acne, often leaving the skin feeling tight and stinging.

Exfoliation was big business, used to even out skin tone, address acne scarring and reduce the visible signs of aging. The delicate skin on faces was scrubbed relentlessly with physical exfoliants featuring harsh walnut shells.

The 1980’s saw the growth of big cosmetic companies, making big cosmetic claims.

This revolution paved the way for the modern skincare industry we have today. Much has been learnt over the proceeding decades, and the harsh, aggressive treatment of skin is no longer advocated. Cosmetic science, evidence and knowledge have grown expediently, as have the claims made by cosmetic companies and supplement manufacturers. The media onslaught about skincare and antiaging products is mind blowing!

Many of us find it over whelming.

Having seen the effects of treating skin with harsh products I am a very firm believer in cleaner beauty, the use of natural ingredients that align with the scientific evidence for their benefits, and it is this premise that guides the formulation of all Rose Cottage Croft skincare products.

There are many ingredients that are declared safe for cosmetic use that many of us want to avoid, such as sulfates, parbens, triclosan, EDTA, phthalates, PEG. None of these ingredients are used in any Rose Cottage Croft skincare, or haircare formulations.'

I believe there's no need for confusing cosmetic claims, as hydrated, nourished, protected skin will naturally glow and look healthy.
